We are celebrating the month of July at SnapClickSupplyCo with double sale goods on Wednesdays.
In honor of this double goodness, I’ve created a project so easy, you’ll want to make two … or three … or four! Here is my version of a summer reading journal complete with chalkboard name plate and interior pages you can download for yourself.
I used the digital kit School Bingo Card Kit by Jenni Bowlin Studio digital.
I chose 2 of the images to be my covers and opened them up in my word processing software, resized them to 4.25 x 6 inches and printed them out. I made back covers from patterned paper the same size. For extra stability, I adhered them to chipboard. Brads and photo turns were added to hold the book plates that will be added next.
To make the book plates for the covers, I cut decorative brackets from my Silhouette from chipboard and painted them with chalkboard paint. Scribbling chalk onto the pieces and then wiping them clean, helps make the chalkboard look, well, just like chalkboard!
These pieces can be written on with chalk over and over again, changed as you like. The plates slip right under the photo turns on the covers.
I created interior pages so the little reader can write the title, author, and other notes about their book. There are also outlines of stars so the reader can “rate” their book by coloring the stars in or use stickers to fill in the stars. The star outlines are sized to fit Star Banner Stickers from Jenni Bowlin Studio.
You can bind the book in many ways. I simply punched two holes and used book rings to keep the pages together.
You can get download the interior pages I’ve created here:

I hope you enjoy making summer reading journals for your little readers!
