Chalkboard Art is an Illustrator-based class teaching you how to create a chalkboard “look” through the computer. Projects show how to manipulate type, use effects, embed type, and more! Projects include a 16 inch x 20 inch poster/canvas art and a 5 inch x 7 inch birthday invitation. Both projects show you how to manipulate type to create your own creations!
MORE ABOUT THIS COURSE
This class implements my favorite way of teaching: practical approaches with design theory incorporated. While we design together, I teach the technical information you need to create along with the reasoning (design theory) for doing what I do. Through this method, you are able to reflect on your own designwork and create based on practical, technical, and theoretical knowledge.
My hope is that you take the information from a course like this and apply it to your designs in other styles other than the chalkboard style shown in class.
I recommend Illustrator Basics 1 before starting this class.
There are two lessons. First, we create a 5 inch x 7 inch invitation to a birthday party. Second, we create a 16 inch x 20 inch poster. This will help you develop an eye for size. A list of free fonts as well as fonts your can purchased are provided in this class.

I admit, I struggle with illustrator. There probably wasn't anything new included in this class if you are well versed in illustrator, but I enjoy the step by step. While she worked through 2 projects in the videos, I worked on my own project that I had in mind for a friend and the end result was something that looked very professional! The videos were full of small tricks that helped an illustrator beginner create something fantastic and worth presenting!
