Adding Sequins and Stitches to a Digital Summer Layout

Hello SnapClickSupply.com fans! This is Betsy Sammarco and I am so happy to be designing for this great website and store once again!

Have you wondered about trying digital scrapbooking, but think you may miss the hands-on experience of creating traditional layouts? I use a hybrid technique quite often that satisfies both my urge to try digital scrapbooking AND my need for creating with my traditional supplies.

I love the Lazy Days of Summer Beach Bum line by Carina Gardner.  The colors are just beautiful throughout and the distressed look goes so well with my beach photos.  And I have a TON of beach photos!

I created a digital layout in Photoshop Elements of my niece at the beach. Tags are such a classic element and these large, tall tags work so well hanging from a digital string with my photos.

I printed my 12x12 page from a local printer and picked it up. It’s now ready for some hybrid additions that I can add by hand.

First, I attached a piece of plain cardstock to the back of the digital layout to give it a bit more sturdiness.  Depending on where you print your layouts, you may or may not need to do this.

I then started stitching here and there around the border of the layout. Stitching on a layout is one of my favorite things to do and although my layout already had digital stitching, adding the traditional stitching adds a homespun quality to the finished piece.

After stitching, you'll have thread ends visible on your layout.

I pulled some threads to the back to tie off, and some to the front.  I let some hang and some I tied into bows. The haphazard look just adds to the charm!

Sequins are a favorite supply of mine and I have a LOT of traditional sequins of all colors and shapes on hand.  I finished the layout by adding some real sequins with Zip Dry adhesive.

My hybrid layout is now done and not only did I enjoy the digital process, I had fun adding the final touches by hand too!
